  • I agree. A flash can produce reflections-especially off snow.

  • It looks like light refracted off of the white snow. It's obvious you're using a flash.

  • I don’t know why i took this photo because in that winter, i presume that i took photo so, to remember something of winter.. because in Italy that winter finished soon..

The trick is to look at your photo as soon as possible after taking them. That way things are fresh in your mind. Things like what the area felt like, what made you take a photo in that direction and at that time.

  • Very decent of you! I'd like to see. Thanks.

  • A lot of the dishonest ones do. I use those programs to enhance the image. I make a copy and I'll edit the copies to show each step of the enhancement process. That way anyone who wants to look over my work can reproduce the results and prove for themselves that I have not done any other manipulation.

If someone take the image, follows my steps and gets the same results...they know I haven't added anything. I consider it to be similar to the "Chain of custody" of forensic evidence. After all they often have to do the same things I do to bring out detail in a fuzzy image. They need to prove that they have not added anything, just enhanced it.

When I get home (I work nights) I'll re-post the image along side of the enhancements to show you what I mean.

You are really good. I bet most investigators use photo-manipulation to make up images and call them anomalies.

  • One of my favorite tricks is to use Photoshop, Gimp, or any powerful photo-manipulation program and do an equalization on the image. It's great for getting a little more detail out of an image especially one that's taken at night.

If you zoom in to 400% and do an equalization on it, you'll notice that the other snowflakes in the area are also surrounded with a purplish aura. So based on that I'd have to say we're looking at a snowflake too close to the camera to be picked up by the lens but is close enough to the flash to cause a reflection artifact.

  • That could be a camera glitch.
